decluttering? if you have lots of clothes how do you deal with them in terms of declutter
Can anone recommend an effective book on Home Organization, Decluttering and Housecleaning?? I am hoping to find a simple book that will enable me to organize my home, which on the surface, appears fine, but I know could be better. Books on establishing routines might help and possibly decluttering. I know there are many such books to choose from, and I am looking for a reasonably-priced book that is easy enough to follow and implement. I am sure many people have purchased such books, but are there any that can be recommended and why? Thank you.
decluttering your home - why do people seem to want to throw other people's stuff away but not their own? i was watching one of those tv programs where people ask to have their homes decluttered. the organizer comes in and *forces* them to throw away anything that is not important or valuable to the organizer regardless of how precious it is to the owner. many posessions are priceless, perhaps if only for the sentimental value. some items are family heirlooms saved for generations to be passed to the next. some are just tangible expressions of our individuality and who we are. others we have just because we like them. why would it be ok for people to throw away everything of personal value to someone else just because they ask for help decluttering and organizing? some things are completely irreplaceable like a gift from a child who has since died. just because something has no value to you doesn't mean it has no value to me and vice versa. how would you feel and what would you do if it happened to you? not asking for help is the obvious answer but what if you really need the help? ok, i understand that stuff is really just stuff, but what about the gifts you put a lot of time and thought and perhaps money into? is it ok to throw all those away too, even though they came from you? if you know a gift is just going to be discarded, why give it? also, why is it so hard when the tables are turned and the people throwing other people's stuff away can't seem to part with their own?
Tips for decluttering house? I need some quick and easy tips for decluttering my house. I am overwhelmed and not sure where to start. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! :)
Cleaning/decluttering books without complicated systems? I have read the "Fly-lady" system and the "Messies Manual" and I know part of my problem is that I'm somewhat lazy. ;-) But, I'm wondering if there are any books or web sites out there to give me tips on keeping my home clean and uncluttered, without having to create these complicated systems of cards? Thanks. . .
Decluttering, does it really work and how to achieve it? Can a person really declutter and remain decluttered or is it some pschological trait that leads to cluttering in the first place, therefore even if decluttered the clutter will return in some form or other if decluttering is not addressed at some other level. I know I am losing 5 points but I cant answer any questions at the moment despite not having answered my quota, whatever that is, and cant get through to any one who will sort that out, so what the heck!

I have thirty minutes to do some decluttering...tips?!? I've sat on my bum all day, and have to go out in half an hour (after allowing 5 mins getting ready while waiting for responses) - so i want to use that time efficiently by decluttering. Please give me some quick tips, or a 'to do' list or simply give me a firm instruction to tidy something in particular! I lack willpower, hence turning to strangers for instruction ;P Thanks! Book search for cleaning book, or decluttering book, that has sample rooms, HOW LONG IT TOOK (hrs), and then? Book search for cleaning book, or decluttering book, that has different rooms (bedroom, basement, etc), HOW LONG IT TOOK (hrs), and then how it looks when done. My need is the How Long It Took to Declutter portion. Might be a TV Show book, ie. Clean House, TLC shows, etc.
decluttering isn't as hard as you think is it? I have spent 8 days exactly decluttering and cleaning, I felt trapped in all the junk and hung onto stuff just because I attached misguided sentimental value to it. Three trips to the charity shop has got rid of heaps of stuff and I feel so liberated, how can I make sure I don't go back to my old hoarding habits?
Decluttering - has anyone actually done it? ? I don't mean just cleaning out a wardrobe or a garage, I mean really get rid of loads of stuff! I want some advice as I just can't seem to get started and I know most of the self help clutter books say start somewhere! I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually had a serious problem with clutter and overcome it. Thank you.
Decluttering-what to hold onto? I don't know if I should part with letters people have written me or the gifts that my no longer living relatives have given me? I have those clear, plastic bins for storage..useful or no? I have plenty of exercise equipment and office supplies not currently in use. So in a Feng Shui-decluttering state, what should I hold onto?
How can I get into the habit of getting rid of clutter? Although I have a very clean and well presented home, I find that I can't bear to part with things even when I know that I don't really need them. It's got to the stage now where I have clothes and ornaments from way way back that I know I'll never use, just taking up space in my home that could be used for other things. How do I get into the habit of "decluttering" so to speak , can you give me some tips or advice? Thanks a lot.

Where do I start to declutter my house? I have quite a bit of clutter in every room. This clutter is mostly paper. There are some boxes and there are some things that belong other places such as the things on the kitchen counters, the things on the dining room table etc. The carpet was removed last November and this caused the furniture to be removed and then replaced. It is not placed the way I plan to keep it; it is just in the house instead of outside. I have so much clutter that it is overwhelming. I start in one room decluttering, but I become overwhelmed because of the seeming lack of progress ( I know that there is some progress, but there is such clutter that I become overwhelmed and stop.) I have tried to take one room a week. I have decided to take my smallest room and then clean and declutter it, but there is so much there that this idea is not working. I need to focus on something smaller just to start. Any help will be appreciated.
Quickest way to declutter my room? i have 2-3 hours to declutter my room that looks like a tornado blew thru.... are there any checklists/to-do lists/instructions i can print out...for free? all sites i found about decluttering have lists but you gotta pay or they are too time-consuming to create. hope someone responds to this quickly.
How can I make my bedroom a romantic retreat with NO money?? Right now, we do not have money for any luxuries, but since I'm out of work, I have the time. My bedroom is a clutter magnet and I am working on decluttering my bedroom. But, even if I clear out all non-essentials to the room, it does not have a welcoming feel to it. Also, my husband is deathly allergic to perfumes and fragrances, so fragrant candles or perfumes and even certain cleaners are OUT. Do you have any ideas on how to make a bedroom romantic without spending ANY money? Lunasa: You rock! I didn't find anything on freecycle I could use for romance, but I did find someone in my own county that needs something that is cluttering up my house.
How are you supposed to dispose of a Bible? I'm decluttering my room, throwing out things I don't need. And I have like, 6 Bibles. I'm sorry, but I don't need six of them. But I don't feel right throwing any out. Is there somewhere I can donate them, or is it ok to toss some? I just don't want to commit some terrible sin.
Have you ever regretted throwing anything out? You know how these housecleaning and decluttering shows are all the rage right now? I am wondering if anyone out there has gone really gung-ho and pitched all their stuff. Did you feel better afterwards? Did you regret anything that you gave away? Did it really make it easier to keep your house clean in the long run?
When is the best time to list your home to sell? I was thinking the spring was the best time since home buyers will have their home just in time for school in september. Well its end of June and I am not ready to sell my house yet. I didn't realize that my house needed so much work and decluttering. If I get done by July would this be late. I just feel I missed the boat when comes to getting buyers at their peak. Should I wait till march/april of next year to sell when the house is ready to sell.
Decluttering, what do I keep? I am 22, trying to declutter my life. I have so many clothes.. much of which are not even all that nice.. but I keep them 'just in case'. Same with everything else around. I don't want this much stuff. I don't want to throw away something I may need either. Help! Ps. How do you know what is worth pawning?

Where do I begin with decluttering and redecorating my house? I have 9 rooms and they all need sorting out and decluttering before I can attempt to give them a lick of paint even. I have 2 little children so trying to do anything in the day when they're around is almost impossible and I'm usually shattered by the time they go to bed. I know it may take a good few months of sorting out but I really need to decide where to start even if I just do one hour per day. Any tips on what to do and where to start? Thankyou in advance. I have a front room, back room, conservatory, naff kitchen, daughters room, half done bathroom, our messy bedroom and shoddy hallway, landing and stairs. TIA people.
Need tips for decluttering this house!? Spring has finally arrived in Michigan...(maybe) and my house seems to be overcrowded with stuff. I don't even know exactly what stuff I have, there is still some packed in boxes because there just isn't enough room. What have you done to reduce clutter in your lives? I tried the keep, give away, throw away method but it doesn't seem to reduce much.
What do I charge for my service? I'm a Home Stager and certified in Decluttering, Depersonalizing and Organizing. I've moved to a city of 38,000 people and am anxious to get going with my business but don't know how to charge for my service. Any ideas??
Have you ever seen the show Clean House? So why on earth would you nominate yourself for some major decluttering help, then refuse to get rid of everything? I've never in my life been so frustrated from watching a TV show! LOL! I kind of hate these people...and I really really want to slap them.
I am slowly decluttering my house....? but I have three areas left to do: the hall (covered in paperwork and shoes) the bedroom (floor full of clothes and goodness knows what else my partner dumps on the floor) the box room/laundry room (also full of clothes and whatever my partner dumps in there) Where do I start and how?! Living room, kitchen and bathroom were easy but all these masses of clothes will take weeks to wash and I don't know how to go about sorting it! Thanks!
Will be making a series of donations (clothes, etc.) to a charity thrift store, what are the tax consequences? I'm putting my home 4-sale in the Fall & meanwhile I'm decluttering. A lot of the stuff will be donated to charity & it has decent fair market value. I have read the following: Attach IRS Form 8283 to your return, giving the name & address of the recipient organization, a description of the property contributed, the date the property was acquired, how the property was acquired & its fair market value if the gift's value is over $500. But that seems to apply if a single item is worth $500. What if I donate 50 collectable items each worth 10.00 bucks? Is this per donation or in a single day? I.e. should I limit each days donation to 499.00 and come back the next day? As for how acquired, etc. These are things that I have long-sense thrown recipts away and have acquired anywhere from garage sales to stores. Do I have to really answer for every item in the batch? Will a pic & itemized inventory work? Please CPA's or experts in this field only respond. Thanks!
Decluttering - but what memories to keep? I have had a few boxes of my belongings arrive from overseas. Within the boxes are childhood things - some toys, letters, cards, pictures, little notes etc. I really cant keep all of it but I dont know what to keep and what to throw away! Has anyone got any ideas about how to sort and organise this? I dont want to regret getting rid of anything but then I dont want to hang on to things anymore I want more of a fresh lighter start......... What things will I want to look back on in years to come and what will just be meaningless pieces of paper that I am dragging around?? Any ideas/ previous experience of this? Thanks :) Mmmmm... thats weird I didnt choose this place for this question!!! I put it in home and garden and yet it has appeared here!!!!! ah well!! - no point deleating!!!!! - will only loose points and get no answers :)
Decluttering--how to "let go" of THINGS? What do you tell yourself to 'let go' of things and not keep them just because they were you mothers or grandfathers (both long ago deceased) or one of your greatest friends (also deceased for a few yrs.). It's not like those are the only things or I'll really lose my memories. I have a bit of guilt when I let go. Some are just 'not me' and just 'dust collectors'. Maybe someone has some magic words, thoughts, a proverb that would help me let go and help me declutter. I would most certainly appreciate it!
decluttering how do you do it? hi all I have just had my house redecorated - it really needed it and I saved hard and now its lovely. however i now need to declutter and i cant do it. I find it impossible to throw out nice stuff - even if its going to goodwill I feel I should hang on to it "just in case" for instance i have over 40 pillowcases and 30 pairs of shoes and bags uncountable. please could you tell me the best way you found to get rid of stuff you no longer need. for instance i have a study full of books half of which i will read again - it would break my heart to give them away but with space needed - i have to be brutal. another for instance - i have lots of half used lipstick and makeup pencils should i just throw then away? with two growing daughters (twins aged nearly 4) - i want to teach them how to be tidy and be able to get rid of stuff when they need to. i suppose i am a hoarder at heart and i want to stop. any ideas? thanks pals sorry didnt mean to put this in to languages - yes i go to alot of garage sales over here we call them car boot sales - and i have double of everything - i have 4 pairs of half worn tennis shoes 4 black patent leather bags etc etc. i dont have loads of money and i wish i could declutter so i could see what i have and then buy to compliment what i have. we cant write stuff off on taxes here.one of the main questions i have is should i throw out 3 of the half used pairs of tennis shoes and all of the half used make-up - i have make-up going back 15 years - help. i tried that website and am getting hopeful and also less depairing that i am not alone thanks.
Suggestions for Decluttering a Computer? My computer has several various files (photos, documents, videos, etc.) covering several topics (finance, research, family, etc.). What suggestions do You have for organizing the files? We use the FLYLady system around the house and it works nicely. I also use GTD for work (again, successfully). However, I find the two systems somewhat inapplicable to organizing a computer file system. Perhaps I'm not seeing a useful application of these two? What technique(s) do You use? BTW, I run Linux, so I can use symbolic links from multiple directories in an almost tagging-like fashion.
Why do I feel so threatened by my predecessor? At work, I have a great job and I'm really getting into the groove of things. I have done more cleaning and streamlining in the last three weeks than she did in her two years here (like decluttering the kitchen, the copy room, the file room and reorganizing the office). HOWEVER, she comes in CONSTANTLY to see one of the guys here and I feel extremely threatened--even though I know she's moving in 2 weeks to Florida. I know that the owner wanted to hire her back, and my boss won in hiring me...but still! WHY oh WHY? I'm not normally a jealous person! Everything I've gotten from coworkers was how she didn't do things--like cleaning out the kitchen/organizing the file and copy rooms, and being content without implementing/organizing/stream... anything...and I've done so much more--it's driving me nuts!
Do any of you have great tips on cleaning and decluttering? To clean my ceiling fans I take an old pillow case and spray the inside with Endust or Pledge cleaner. Then slip the case over dirty fan blades. Then you can dust the blades but the dust stays in the pillow case instead of all over the floor. All you have to do then is take the case outside, turn it inside out and give it a few quick shakes. After you have done all of the fans just throw it in the washer and it will be ready for the next time! The rest of the fan can usually be dusted without making a big mess. Maybe use a damp cloth.
What do you think about Spork? You know, the hybrid between Fork & Spoon. Those plastic ones from takeouts can be terrible, but I've seen some nice sturdy Titanium Spork. I am decluttering my home, and getting multi-functional tools is part of minimizing. I know there are people against Spork. Just wanna know what my dinner guests might think.
how many of have started to spring clean? I have and its fantastic sorting out paperwork and replying, emailing , posting all correspondence, once done, its clothes decluttering old clothes then its opening windows letting oxygen in and start cleaning
